How to merge PDF files (and photos) into one

A job application with a cover letter, a CV and certificates. A visa file with a form, a bank statement and a passport copy. Whoever receives it will thank you for one tidy PDF instead of five attachments. This guide shows how to merge files and get every page in the right place.

Merge your files

  1. 1Open Merge PDF and choose all your files at once. You can mix PDFs and photos.
  2. 2Every page of every file appears in the thumbnails down the side, and the whole document in the middle. The page count at the top tells you how many pages you have.
  3. 3Drag thumbnails to change the order. You are moving pages, not whole files, so you can put a single page anywhere.
  4. 4Tap Download. The merged PDF is named after your first file, and you can rename it by tapping its name at the top.

Files are added in the order your device hands them over, which is often alphabetical. Don’t worry about picking them in the perfect order: rearranging pages afterwards takes seconds.

Mix PDFs and photos

Photos become pages of their own, so you can attach a photographed receipt or ID card to a PDF form. Use Page settings to choose the size and margins of those image pages. PDF pages always keep their own size.

Add more files as you go

Forgot one? You don’t have to start again. Use Add files in the toolbar, the Add PDFs or images tile at the end of the thumbnails, or the drop area after the last page. On a computer you can also drag files from a folder and drop them onto the document. New pages go to the end, and PDF Tools shows you where they landed.

Tidy up before you download

  • Remove a page you don’t need with the bin button under it. To merge only part of a long PDF, add it, then delete the pages you don’t want.
  • Fix sideways pages with the rotate buttons under each page.
  • To change several pages at once, tick them in the thumbnails, then rotate or delete them from the toolbar.
  • Made a mistake? Undo brings it back. On a computer, Ctrl+Z (or Cmd+Z on a Mac) works too.

Name it and send it

A clear file name helps the person who receives it. Tap the name at the top of the screen and type something like visa-application-documents, and it is used when you download. On a phone, Share in the More menu sends the merged PDF straight to an email or a chat, so you don’t have to look for it in your downloads first.

Protected PDFs and forms

PDFs that only restrict editing open without a question. If a PDF needs a password to open, PDF Tools asks for it. The password is only used on your device. Note that the merged PDF itself is not password protected, so store it with the same care as the original.

Fillable forms stay fillable after merging. Switch to Fill at the top to complete them, even when they now sit between other files.

Very large files

Questions

Are my files uploaded to merge them?

No. Merging happens in your browser, on your device. Your files are never sent anywhere.

How many files can I merge?

As many as you like. The practical limit is your device’s memory with very large files.

Can I merge only some pages of a PDF?

Yes. Add the whole file, then delete the pages you don’t need before you download.

Can I sign the merged document?

Yes. The merged document stays open: switch to Sign at the top, add your signature and tap Apply.
